Blending music, movement, spoken word and film, Tida is a deeply personal interdisciplinary performance exploring intergenerational cultural identity through artist Mary Prescott’s maternal lineage. Through an intimate and visually evocative theatrical language, Prescott examines her mother’s undocumented Thai ancestry, her experiences as a Southeast Asian immigrant raising biracial children in the American Midwest, and the lasting impact of these histories across three generations of women.
At once reflective and urgently contemporary, Tida moves between memory and discovery, tracing the ways identity is shaped by migration, silence, inheritance and the stories families carry forward. The result is a powerful meditation on ancestry, belonging and the unseen threads that connect generations across time and place.
Presented in partnership with The Year of Thailand and the Bailey School of Music, Tida reflects the season’s broader exploration of branching narratives, cultural connection and the transformative power of storytelling through performance.
